Cromhall Quarry

Location :

Junction 14, M5 (1 mile south of Michael Wood Services, Junction 14 is the first junction 2 miles North of the M4/M5 interchange)

Turn East onto the B4509, heading toward Wotton-under-Edge/Yate, etc.. Travel approx. 1 mile before reaching a T-junction. Turn right, stay on this road for approx. 600 yards - the road drops down a shallow incline. At the bottom of this incline on the right is a group of buildings - this is the entrance (you're about 7 min's off the M5 by now).

Turn right into the coach station - Westward Travel, follow A4-sized signs depicting yellow standard-dress 8-bolt hard hat, across coach yard and through the adjacent transport dept. The road will quickly lead you into the quarry itself.

Multimap

Altitude: Not sure of exact metres above Sea Level but would not class it as an Altitude dive (less than 100m).

Water Temp: 5-14 degrees

Visibility: 3-10m

Gas: Small compressor onsite but recommended to  bring what you need with you.

Required Experience:Good site to take novices, max depth 15-17m.

Amenities: Small air compressor (air only), portaloo, cold drinks & chocolate. Ensure you bring your own food & drink.
Nearest pub -
400 yards down the road is the Royal Oak (01454 260 365), nice garden and the food is reasonably priced  and of outstanding quality, in the bar is a glass-covered Well (50ft+ deep) dived a few years ago by none other than Martyn Farr - so it's almost a 'divers pub' right on the doorstep.

Site Safety: This site is a medium risk area.

Be aware Definitely bring an O2 kit with you and good surface cover is a must.

Wildlife: Newts and one large carp.

Attractions:

Rover 620SE, a Volvo 340DL, old canoe, bikes, a few digger tyres. In the middle of the main body of water is a big big pile of large boulders, in the shallower end is a few poles and what almost looks like a mini graveyard of little sticks etc...poking up (it's not though) and some truck oil filters. Some new training platforms, but the main attraction has to be the Newts which make the site protected by the Env Agency, hence the lack of fish. There is one HUGE black and white carp in there so keep your eyes open.

Site Access: Step entry and gentle ramp
